Globe Telecom partners with the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) for Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) access for Metro Manila’s air passenger terminals, namely the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), NAIA Terminals 2 and 3, as well as the Manila Domestic Airport. The partnership comes on the heels of Globe, through flagship broadband brand Tattoo, being certified as the number one broadband brand in the Philippines and on the back of the massive modernization in the company’s telecommunications network.

The free WiFi will benefit millions of domestic and international air passengers, as it will enable them to work online, check emails or travel itineraries, and surf the net while waiting for their flights.

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is one of the busiest airports in the world, with over 27-million passengers served in 2010. Moreover, an additional 18-million passengers flew domestic routes.

“Globe recognizes the increasing need for people to stay connected and in touch, whether it’s via a mobile phone or the internet. As we modernize our network and deliver faster broadband service, we are giving back to the Filipino people by powering the gateway to the Philippines with free WiFi service,” said Gil Genio, Head of the International & Business Markets of Globe Telecom.

“As we continue to make improvements on the NAIA terminals, we are happy to have the support of partners like Globe Telecom to help us transform our airport into one of the best in the world. It is through private-public partnerships, such as that of the MIAA and Globe were we can make greater strides in improving public service,” said MIAA General Manager Jose Angel Honrado.

The government has earmarked P1.16-Billion to upgrade the NAIA, which includes an array of structural works and more basic amenities in the 30-year old airport.

Globe is in the thick of a massive, $700-Million mobile network modernization program which will transform the entire Globe network infrastructure into the most modern and most resilient the country and give customers vastly improved call quality under pervasive 3G coverage, rare dropped calls, and instantaneous SMS delivery as well as enjoy blazingly fast mobile internet access.

Globe also maintains the widest international coverage among all Philippine telecommunication companies, with over 600 roaming partners from all over the world. Globe also has the lowest IDD call rates, IDD Sakto Calls, at 15 centavos per second (P0.15) to the United States, Hawaii, Canada, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, United Kingdom, Kuwait, Equatorial Guinea, and Saudi Arabia —

places that have some of the highest numbers of OFWs. Globe also has a wide range of IDD and international SMS offers that enable families in the Philippines to stay in touch with overseas Filipinos. These include the IDD Sakto Calls, which reduce IDD rates by as much as 70%; and Super US Direct, a unique service that gives subscribers virtual US landline numbers so friends and family in the US can contact them at local US call rates.

TEAM PINE VS. TEAM HARDY FOR REESE IN “THIS MEANS WAR”

movies_this_means_war_premiere_1

Reese Witherspoon is in a squeeze choosing between today’s most-sought leading actors Chris Pine and Tom Hardy in the riotous and hilarious romantic comedy “This Means War.”

Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon tackles her first action role in This Means War, where the love of a woman turns best friends and super-spies Tuck (Tom Hardy) and FDR (Chris Pine) into rivals, using all the hi-tech tools and muscle at their disposal to wage an epic battle. Lauren, who from being recently dumped and dateless comes across two of the hottest and charming guys she has ever met. Unknown to her, FDR (Pine) and Tuck (Hardy) are the CIA’s best secret agents and have been friends since childhood. FDR and Tuck then made a gentleman’s agreement to hide the truth from Lauren and let her choose the best man. What happens is a series of outrageous tactics to help prevent Lauren from falling in love and sleeping with the other.

movies_this_means_war_premiere_2

“It’s every woman’s fantasy to have two unbelievably hot, sexy guys battling over you,” says Witherspoon. “Lauren doesn’t know that Tuck and FDR are secret agents for the CIA. THIS MEANS WAR is almost like two different movies. My character’s in a comedy and Chris’ and Tom’s are in a big action film.”

Witherspoon also appreciated the two sides of Lauren. “At work, Lauren is the most decisive woman in the world, but in her personal life, she’s very indecisive. I think a lot of people can relate to her feeling of, ‘Am I picking the right guy for me.’”

It’s a tough choice, to be sure, because her suitors are handsome, smart, romantic…and the world’s greatest secret agents. For generations, movie audiences have been entertained and beguiled by the thrills, chills and sex appeal of super spies. “With FDR and Tuck, we were going for the classic movie special agent,” says McG. “What’s sexy about that world is it’s life and death; it’s international; and it’s the antithesis of what most people experience in their everyday lives. I think we all want to travel around the world, go to exotic locations, drive fancy cars, fire guns, and be romantically irresistible. We’re having fun with that, and FDR and Tuck are incredibly proficient in that world. But when it comes to affairs of the heart, they’re just like everyone else. Clueless.”

tom-hardy-in-this-means-war

“In her work she’s a very decisive woman, but in her romantic life she's just a disaster. The man she moved from Atlanta with ended up leaving her, shattering her heart and crushing her spirits, so she's been debilitated. She hasn't been able to date, she hasn't been able to go out. Chelsea Handler’s character Trish is her only friend because she works so much, so she's finally decided she's going to enter the dating world,” says Witherspoon of her role.

DF-11635_11693_R2 Despite the handshake and smiles, it’s all out war between best pals Tuck (Tom Hardy, left) and FDR (Chris Pine), who are battling over the woman (Reese Witherspoon), for whom they’ve both fallen.

On her first meeting with Tuck and FDR, Reese relates that “She meets Tuck, played by Tom Hardy, on a dating website and they have an awkward first date that ends up going really well; then she ends up meeting Chris Pine's character, FDR, in a video store. They're both excited about their new relationships, and there's this great reveal where they show each other a picture of their girl, and it's the same girl. It's a great scene between two men - like, ‘what do you do if you're best friends and you like the same girl?’ It brings up all that territorial male dominance stuff.”

Tech. News: The New Windows 8 Logo

6201.Win8Logo_01_thumb_23669D8A

We hope you enjoy our new logo.

Sam Moreau
Principal Director of User Experience for Windows

“We wanted the new logo to be both modern and classic by echoing the International Typographic Style (or Swiss design) that has been a great influence on our Metro style design philosophy. Using bold flat colors and clean lines and shapes, the new logo has the characteristics of way-finding design systems seen in airports and subways.” said Sam Moreau.

“It was important that the new logo carries our Metro principle of being “Authentically Digital”. By that, we mean it does not try to emulate faux-industrial design characteristics such as materiality (glass, wood, plastic, etc.). It has motion – aligning with the fast and fluid style you’ll find throughout Windows 8.”

“Our final goal was for the new logo to be humble, yet confident. Welcoming you in with a slight tilt in perspective and when you change your color, the logo changes to reflect you. It is a “Personal” Computer after all.”

this news is officially confirmed by Sam Moreau who is the Principal Director of User Experience for Windows.
