The Awakening World Tour : James Morrison Live in Manila

James Morrison achieved worldwide success in 2006 with the release of his debut single “You Give Me Something” from his first album, Undiscovered, which also holds songs like "Wonderful World" and "The Pieces Don't Fit Anymore." His second album, Songs for You, Truths for Me in 2008 entered the UK Album Chart and singles from this album reached the UK Singles Chart namely "You Make It Real,” and “Broken Strings,” a duet with Nelly Furtado.

JamesMorrisonLiveinManila_NEWSLETTER

He has sold out arena tours, gigged coast-to-coast in America as well as in Australia, Japan and across Europe; he has performed on Jimmy Kimmel’s and Jay Leno’s TV shows in the States; sung in front of tens of thousands at London’s Hyde Park supporting both Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder; appeared on Herbie Hancock’s Grammy-winning album The Imagination Project – singing a widely acclaimed cover of Sam Cooke’s A Change Is Gonna Come; he has been voted Best Male at the 2007 Brit Awards; and – at just 21 – was the biggest-selling British male solo artist the year his debut album, Undiscovered, came out.

His current and third album The Awakening is a warm, live-sounding collection of classic but contemporary folk-soul songs. The album represented a sound of an artist coming of age. “My first two albums felt like practice shots,” he says, “and now I’ve graduated. In many ways this feels like my first proper album.”

Tech News: Globe Telecom Supports MozillaPH Roadshow

mozilla_firefox_horizontal_jpg_large_2000x784

http://www.mozillaph.org

Leading telecommunications provider Globe Telecom gives its support to MozillaPH, a Mozilla-supported community initiative in the country which is set to conduct a roadshow on August 22 to promote HTML5 technologies and to showcase the upcoming FirefoxOS, an open-source mobile operating system for mobile and tablet devices.

With the new FirefoxOS, developers can easily create cross-browser applications for the web and portable devices such as smartphones and tablets using HTML5, a markup language for structuring and presenting web content. With HTML5, developers would be able to handle multimedia and graphical content on the web without having to resort to proprietary plug-ins and platform-specific application programming interfaces (APIs). This means more opportunities to create stimulating and interactive websites as well as better and more powerful applications.

3

“Globe Labs is always in a lookout for innovations in the mobile space in view of advancements in the delivery of mobile products and services. Thus, we continuously engage the IT community by offering various trainings and workshops and entering into partnerships with third-party developers and communities such as MozillaPH which hold similar activities,” said Anne Michelle Santos, Developer Relations Manager of Globe Labs.

She added: “In fact, we have been in partnership with MozillaPH on various project initiatives since 2009. This way, we are able to provide a venue for interested parties to develop their own apps and bring them to market.”

Globe Labs, which was launched by Globe in 2008, is an innovative community composed of dynamic and vibrant IT professionals, students and business managers, with primarily focus on mobile and future technologies which can be later on deployed to the market.

On the other hand, Robert Reyes, MozillaPH Regional Localization leader said: “We are grateful to be working with Globe Labs in promoting openness, innovation and opportunity in the mobile space. We are very excited to do a roadshow for FirefoxOS to teach, support, and inspire as much people as we can so that they can develop something better suited to the Philippine market.”

Tech News: The Firefox OS -- Booting to the Web (formerly known as Boot to Gecko / B2G)

mozilla_firefox_horizontal_jpg_large_2000x784

http://www.mozillaph.org

Mozilla believes that the web can displace proprietary, single-vendor stacks for application development. To make open web technologies a better basis for future applications on mobile and desktop alike, we need to keep pushing the envelope of the web to include -- and in places exceed -- the capabilities of the competing stacks in question.

We also need a hill to take, in order to scope and focus our efforts. Recently we saw the pdf.js project expose small gaps that needed filling in order for "HTML5" to be a superset of PDF. We want to take a bigger step now, and find the gaps that keep web developers from being able to build apps that are -- in every way -- the equals of native apps built for the iPhone, Android, and WP7.

650px-B2G-processes

User space process architecture

To that end, we started a project we’re calling Firefox OS, formerly Boot to Gecko (B2G), to pursue the goal of building a complete, standalone operating system for the open web. It requires work in a number of areas:

  • New web APIs: build prototype APIs for exposing device and OS capabilities to content (Telephony, SMS, Camera, USB, Bluetooth, NFC, etc.)
  • Privilege model: making sure that these new capabilities are safely exposed to pages and applications
  • Booting: prototype a low-level substrate for mobile devices (phones and tablets)
  • Applications: choose and port or build apps to prove out and prioritize the power of the system.

We will do this work in the open, we will release the source in real-time, we will take all successful additions to an appropriate standards group, and we will track changes that come out of that process. We aren't trying to have these native-grade apps just run on Firefox, we're trying to have them run on the web. Read more about the Firefox OS at http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/b2g

Suzuki’s helpful tips on cleaning motorcycles submerged in flood

Suzuki mechanics are ready to assist you with your submerged motorcycle units with these helpful tips:

With the ignition switch turned “off”, remove spark plug and kick-start to remove water inside combustion chamber.
Then, clean the Suzuki Motorcycle Unit with clear running water (pressurized water spray recommended). If seawater flood, immediately wash and lubricate with anti-rust.

srvcmc1

Drain the oil by removing drain plug and engine oil cap.
Apply compressed air into oil filler hole to push out remaining oil and water inside crankcase.  Replace oil and oil filter with Suzuki Genuine Oil and Suzuki Genuine Oil Filter.

Clean and dry wiring harness and check all connectors for possible dirt/mud residue. Inspect all electrical parts (CDI, IGNITION COIL, IGNITION SWITCH, ALL RELAY, ALL BULB AND SOCKET, SPEEDOMETER PANEL ASSEMBLY, AND BATTERY).

Remove the air box and carburetor assembly. Clean air box assembly and replace with new air filter. Have the carburetor assembly over-hauled and make sure to clean all jets, air passage and gasoline passage.

Drain all gasoline from the fuel tank and check if contaminated with water.
Clean and lubricate throttle grip, throttle cable, clutch cable, brake cables and starter cable. Clean also the front and rear brake system and re-grease all wheel bearing. Remove and hang muffler to dry.

Remember, pressurized washing might take out the existing grease in most parts; see to it that new grease will be applied in the steering stem and other parts that require it.

Some of the items above, you can do yourself, but for the most part, the experts are on hand to serve your needs and get you back on the road. Please have your Suzuki unit checked and serviced by an accredited Suzuki mechanic from any Suzuki 3s shop or Suzuki Moto Center nearest you. For complete listing, please visit www.suzuki.com.ph or call Suzuki Customer Care Hotline at 902-1001

And keep in mind to properly dispose of used oil, fuel, and filter. Those floods serve to remind us of the urgent need to save our environment.

THE WATCH: JUMPSTREET’S JONAH HILL IN ANOTHER OUTRAGEOUS COMEDY

After debuting in the comedy “I Heart Huckabees,” Jonah Hill has steadily posited himself as a solid hilarious support in the string of his movies that followed. Appearing afterwards in acclaimed hits like “The 40-Year Old Virgin,” “Knocked Up,” “Superbad,” “Forgettting Sarah Marshall,” “Get Him to the Greek,” “Moneyball” and the most recent “21 Jump Street” with Channing Tatum which is Hill’s highest grossing film after “Superbad.”

THE WATCH

Jonah Hill & Ben Stiller in ‘’THE WATCH’’

His latest movie “The Watch” which is about to open in cinemas this September 5 (in Phils. cinemas) allowed him to work with Ben Stiller, one of moviedom’s great comic talents. In “The Watch,” four suburban guys formed a patrol which they tagged as ‘Neighborhood Watch’ after a mysterious incident left a security guard lifeless in the town’s superstore Costco. Headed by the civic minded Evan (Ben Stiller), he recruits fun-loving family guy Bob (Vince Vaughn), tough-talking ‘wild card’ Franklin (Jonah Hill) and the recent divorcé Jamarcus (Richard Ayoade).

Even with – or maybe because of – their spiffy new “Watch” jackets, which are emblazoned with fiery wings and a tiger head, the not-so-fearsome foursome initially gets no respect from the residents they’re supposedly looking out for. A group of kids plaster them with eggs, and the local cops think they’re a joke: the Hardy Boys…only far less savvy.

THE WATCH

Jonah Hill in THE WATCH

“When they formed this ‘band of brothers’, the guys thought, sure, they might encounter some weird neighborhood stuff – maybe a burglar here, or peeping tom there – but suddenly they realize they’ve facing something extraordinary,” says producer Shawn Levy, the director of such hits as “Night at the Museum” and “Real Steel.” “And The Watch is not just unprepared or unqualified, it’s not remotely equipped to deal with this problem; yet it’s all on them to stop it.”

THE WATCH

THE WATCH - Jonah Hill

The youngest member of the team is Franklin (Jonah Hill), a twenty something, militant looking tough guy with, notes Schaffer “a sweetness just underneath.” (He still lives at home with his mom.) Franklin has a planet-size chip on his shoulder because he’s been rejected as a candidate for the police force and all other law enforcement organizations. So for Franklin, The Watch is the only way he can legally kick ass and take names. “Franklin is alienated from, well everything,” says Hill. “He’s very strange and very funny.”

THE WATCH movie

THE WATCH movie

Coming off his Oscar®-nominated performance in the drama “Moneyball,” and executive producing and starring in the critically-hailed hit “21 Jump Street,” Hill was not looking to return to the kind of raucous comedy that had propelled him to superstardom (like “Superbad” and “Pineapple Express”), but he “couldn’t resist the chance to perform opposite alongside Ben, Vince and Richard,” notes the actor.

“It was something I had to do.” Moreover, “if I was going to do another broad comedy, I wanted it to have no basis in reality, and portray a character that could say or do anything. Plus, anytime you put an extreme amount of danger in the hands of irresponsible people, you know the results are going to be really wild.”

More of Jonah Hill and the movie in this interactive trailer of “The Watch” http://www.youtube.com/thewatchintl.

“The Watch” is a 20th Century Fox movie to be distributed by Warner Bros. in local cinemas (Sept. 5).

New MICHELIN tire technology helped make London’s public bus system safer

1

Michelin, the pioneering brand in electronic tire development, made London’s public bus transits safe and ready for the summer Olympics crowd, with tires equipped with Michelin’s latest innovation in tire technology. Called Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Chips, the new technology allows for quick, safe and efficient evaluation of tire conditions.

pneu_Michelin_RFID

The new “communicating” tires provide a breakthrough solution to improving road safety. Combining the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and RFID chips installed in the tire, the device helps check the tire pressure and conditions and link to a data processing system. After seven years of thorough testing and research plus thousands of manufactured chips that validate test phases, the technology was introduced to 85% of London’s city buses in time for the 30th Olympic Games.

The small RFID chips require no batteries and instead are activated by the radio waves it receives during scanning. The users may input their own data and update them as well. It can last longer than the tire itself, shave time in vehicle maintenance and provide cost-efficient vehicle operations.

Tower-bridge

With Michelin’s “communicating” tires, the transit operators only need to use an electronic reader that automatically gathers information about the tire’s condition and history. Now, instead of physical check-ups that may be dangerous to the operators, a more reliable system of monitoring tire conditions guarantee that the passenger vehicle tires will last longer, be more accurately traceable, reduce fuel consumption and avoid the need for frequent and costly replacements.

The Michelin Group: A major player in the British urban transport system

The figures speak for themselves. With 33,000 buses covered by service contracts (representing 80% of the country’s bus market) and a 100% market share for four of the five largest British bus transport companies and a 50% share for the fifth, Michelin is eminently qualified to provide bus fleets with end-to-end tire management solutions.

What’s more, 85% of all London buses are fitted with MICHELIN tires. More than just buses, these highly original vehicles – with their bright red color so well-liked by tourists – play both a symbolic and an indispensable role in urban mobility and at the same time are rightly considered to be one of the city’s cultural assets

Cocoon Boutique Hotel – where Luxury is Responsible.

Our emblem embodies what we stand for. As seen throughout the hotel,

calado (wooden cut-outs) adorn different areas. The emblem in calado design symbolize the following-

1- A plant – which embodies our goal to highlight the need to protect the environment.

2- The resources that we need to conserve with the flower as an interpretation of the Sun – the symbol for energy, and the flowing leaves as an interpretation of Water.

3- A person with outstretched arms to depict the people in our community – our staff, our guests, our neighbors, with whom we aim to build sustainable relationships.
