Suaveng Ahit, Gwapong Schick Barangay Tour Launched

Looking and feeling good is not just about taking care of yourself; it’s about caring for the things around you and the world you live in. This is precisely what razor brand Schick strives to promote with its ongoing Suaveng Ahit, Gwapong Schick Barangay Tour.

As one of the most trusted personal grooming brands for both men and women, Schick goes all out in pushing its advocacy by reaching out to their valued patrons. Through this project, the brand hopes to continue its goal of imparting positivity and self-confidence not only on a personal level but on the community scale.

The tour got off in on a rousing start last December when the caravan rolled into Salamalabanan Subdivision in Imus, Cavite, where the group initiated different activities focused on engaging and educating the community on proper physical grooming, healthy and active lifestyle, and community awareness.

The project was well received and garnered positive feedback from the community—something that Schick hopes to replicate in other locations within the metro. “We could not have asked for a better start to this tour,” says Claire Guevara, Schick senior brand manager. “The Salamalabanan community here in Imus, Cavite was very gracious and receptive to what we were trying to accomplish as a brand. We greatly appreciate the effort and the participation put forth by the community and we hope that the same goes with our next destination.”

The tour will continue to visit designated locations throughout 2013, including communities around the area of Caloocan, Muntinlupa, Antipolo and Quezon City. 

As part of the brand’s continuing mission to make people feel good both inside and out, the tour’s initiatives include activities such as giving free shaves and haircuts to residents, as well as conducting clean-up drives that help encourage community awareness of health and safety among the youth.

In the first leg the tour also hosted competitions that included a three-on-three basketball game, a free-throw and half-court shootout, as well as a dance showdown, all of which promoted good sportsmanship and camaraderie within the community. The winners and participants received cash prizes and gift packs from Schick.

The group stayed true to its promise of reaching out to the grassroots level. Together with celebrity host Regine Tolentino, the caravan visited tricycle terminals, groceries, and sari-sari stores and immersed themselves in the community while handing out free Schick products.

AUSSIE ACTOR JAI COURTNEY DOUBLES THE ACTION AND THRILL IN “A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD”

“A Good Day To Die Hard” sets up Bruce Willis to reconnect with his long estranged son Jack played by Jai Courtney where he finally tracks him down in Moscow involved in an undercover assignment to pin down the masterminds of a potentially disastrous crime.

Willis’ John McClane arrives in Moscow and learns that Jack, far from being a criminal, is a CIA operative, three years into an undercover mission to protect a Russian thief-turned-whistleblower, Komarov (Sebastian Koch). Having grown a conscience, Komarov is determined to testify against a former partner and thwart his ambitions for higher political office.

The role of Jack McClane went to young Australian actor Jai Courtney, who co-starred in the 2010 season of the series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” and as Tom Cruise’s fearsome adversary in “Jack Reacher.” “I auditioned a couple of times for the role of Jack McClane, and of course wasn’t expecting anything to come of it,” Jai recalls, “because I knew they were casting a really wide net. I had just wrapped Jack Reacher in Pittsburgh, and was homebound to Sydney. Literally, I was walking down the jet way to my connecting flight at LAX when my agent called and said, don’t leave – they want you to read with Bruce! I did a test with him a week later, and some time afterwards got the good news. It’s been a fantastic experience. Bruce is one of those guys I grew up watching on screen and the Die Hard franchise is so iconic.”

Adds Willis: “Jai got the character and he just seemed like family – like a McClane.” And director John Moore notes that, “Jai brings an intelligence and suaveness to the character. But he’s also a much more physical presence than we initially envisaged for Jack. But once Jai auditioned, we said, let’s go with the big guy because he’s right for the role.”

As the son of New York’s most famous cop, Courtney’s Jack proves that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. He displays his father’s sense of duty, courage and willingness to place his life in danger to protect others. “Jack has been living as a Russian, speaking the language, and infiltrating different groups to try to get to the bottom of the disastrous heist,” says Courtney. “He’s shocked when his dad arrives at a crucial moment and blows his cover. He doesn’t want his help; in fact he wants nothing to do with him. Jack is determined to prove he can do this on his own terms and that he’s his own man.”

Under a hail of gunfire, the McClanes manage a desperate escape, and must regroup to figure out how to get to rescue Komarov, who is now in the hands of the group Jack is after. Jack McClane is out of answers, and must turn to John for help. Says Jai Courtney: “Jack takes a methodical approach to his work, probably out of a backlash to his father’s knack for winging it and hoping for the best. But he’s now in a situation where there’s no book to guide him, he has no answers and is at the breaking point. His dad’s instincts are to never quit, regardless of the cost, and in this terrible situation Jack sees that very clearly - maybe for the first time. It gives Jack deeper insight and respect for John’s values. It’s a turning point.”

“This is a father-son story in which they are trying to complete a dangerous mission while also attempting to mend a fractured relationship,” says Wyck Godfrey. “Jack’s first reaction is, Get out of here, dad, I don’t need your help. But what he really wants is to hear his father say, you’re doing great, son, I’m proud of you. And that’s the beauty of this story. We’re playing out a relationship drama in the midst of a thrilling Die Hard story.”

Adds executive producer Jason Keller: “John and Jack find themselves off the grid, in deep trouble, with no help. Jack doesn’t know what to do, and his father pulls him back and says that we can do this. And the key moment in the film happens when Jack chooses to swallow his pride and accept John’s help. Now you have two McClanes working together, which is more than our bad guys ever bargained for.”

PXC-35: The Return of a Champion Harris "The Hit man" Sarmiento is back to defend his PXC Lightweight Championship

PXC is set to rock Manila AGAIN on February 16th, featuring a Lightweight Championship & some of the best rising stars of MMA from the Philippines, Guam, California, Hawaii, Japan, & Korea.

For people who can’t get enough of action, there’s nothing better than watching a good old fashioned brawl. Come February 16, there is going to be plenty of that and more inside the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City as the Pacific X-treme Combat, Asia Pacific’s biggest and best mixed martial arts organization, once again rolls into the country with PXC-35.

PXC has already established a name throughout Asia Pacific and its arrival in the Philippines last June 2011 cemented their reign as the premiere MMA organization by attracting the best fighters from the all over the world. With its most recent installment, PXC again makes its way to the Philippines to put a show in front of thousands of MMA fanatics.

“We are very excited to kick off the year with great matchups at PXC-35 in the Philippines,” says PXC CEO, EJ Calvo. “The card features fighters from all over the world along with rising MMA talent from the Philippines,” Calvo adds.

PXC-35 scheduled 9 action-packed fights to be headlined by a Lightweight title fight between Filipino talents Harris “The Hitman” Sarmiento (35-24) and Isaiah Ordiz (2-0). Coming off a disappointing loss to fellow Filipino-American Mark “Mugen” Striegl in PXC-34 last November, the veteran Sarmiento is set to bounce back and defend his belt against the young blood, Ordiz. This is surely a battle between a veteran and future star of the sport.

In addition, the match between American Alvin Cacdac (11-9) and undefeated Hawaiian Louis “Da Last Samurai” Smolka also draws attention primarily because the winner will most likely be the next contender for the Flyweight title currently held by Filipino fighter Ale “The Young Gun” Cali.

The PXC-35 fight card also includes Team Lakay’s Troy Bantiag (4-1) vs. Guam’s Tony Reyes (5-5), Japanese Chuji Kato (3-1) vs. Korean Top Team’s Hong Seung Chan (2-0), and Hawaiian Ronald Jhun (24-24) vs. Swede Zebastian Kadestam (3-0).

Other homegrown Filipino talents featured on the night are Dario Banario (2-0) vs. Joseph Mercado (1-1), Ruel Catalan (1-2) vs. Ernesto Montilla Jr. (0-1), Adrian Hillana (1-0) vs. Steve Grandeza (0-1), and Glenn Ranillo (1-2) vs. Mark Billena.

PXC-35 expects nothing but fireworks all night as fighters punch, kick and sprawl their way all for the glory of being crowned PXC victors. “We hope to see everyone at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City on the 16th of February and we promise you that it is going to be an exciting night of fights,” Calvo says.
